Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center presents the 44th Winter Living Celebration sponsored by NBT Insurance Agency. This FREE family friendly event will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 11 am to 3 pm at Rogers Center in Sherburne, NY.
Some of the fun Winter activities you can participate in are the Horse-Drawn Sleigh rides by Lamplit Farm, be a human bird feeder, Snowshoeing, Ice Fishing area, Fire pits for warming up sponsored by Blue Ox, Campfire S’mores sponsored by Gilligan’s, Snow painting sponsored by Golden Artist Colors. Live demonstrations include Ice Sculpting demonstration by The Ice Farm and Ice Rescue demonstration by NYS DEC. Chenango County 4H club will be in the Bird Cabin, another warming area.
The opening of the newly remodeled Visitor Center will be at 10:45 am with a limit of 25 people in the center at a time. Visitor Center construction was provided by NYS DEC and included ADA updates such as restrooms and a new elevator. Visitors can enjoy the unveiling of the new exhibits made possible by a grant from NYS Parks & Trails. Also in the center will be representatives from Trout Unlimited, Bullthistle Hiking Club and Chenango Bird Club. Visitors can take a chance on the raffle baskets and check out the store as well. Sherburne Rotary Club will be selling hot food and drinks in the outdoor classroom. Donor bricks will also be on display at the entrance of the Visitor Center since the installation was complete in late Fall.
Simon Solomon, Executive Director said “We are adhering to all COVID precautions to bring this event to the public this year. As we get closer to the event, some activities may change. At this time, we will not be offering cross cut sawing and cross country skiing.” Everyone is welcome to attend, and masks will be mandatory to participate in most of the events. This will include anything indoors, the sleigh ride, and any time you are in close proximity to another person, such as gathering to watch the ice rescue demonstration.
No registration is required to attend, but you can register for a time slot on the sleigh ride when you arrive or in advance by emailing info@friendsofrogers.org. This way, you can go participate in other activities while you wait for your time on the sleigh. If your business would like to sponsor one of the activities, there is still time. Your sponsorship will allow your company to have a banner or sign at the activity of your choosing to show your support of Friends of Rogers. Friends of Rogers are also accepting donations for the raffle basket table – so if your company would like to donate a gift card, experience, or item, please email Heather Tehan at development@friendsofrogers.org.
